SCREENPLAYS, POETRY, ESSAYS and A NOVEL
photo by Tess AtkinsonI am a writer. I started musing on paper with pencil or pen to tell it as I saw it, always acutely aware of relationships and societal patterns. Sometimes the characters were real. Sometimes they were a stretch of my imagination. Fiction gave me more stretch and I found it in Screenplays where moving images allowed me to stretch it further. I found it in Poetry when I needed to edit it down to the sparse singular word that evoked the greatest punch. I found it in a long winding Novel and I ran with it in Essays that lean closest to the truth. Most often, I observe what I live rather than search for a foreign angle.
I went to graduate school in Journalism at Concordia University in Montreal and hold an undergraduate degree from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia in communications. I studied advanced screenplay writing at Harvard, and under Robert McKee in NYC and LA and worked in documentaries in Toronto, London, UK and France.
I write from Cambridge, Massachusetts.
